WHAT’sNEXT?

The Bridge to Federal Organic

Until cannabis is federally legal, you won’t see the USDA Organic seal on any cannabis products.

That’s why California created OCal: so health-conscious consumers could shop with confidence, knowing the products they choose meet the same rigorous standards as USDA Organic certification in food and farming.

A glass jar of cannabis buds in a No Till Kings "Living Soil" box is shown beside a magnifying glass highlighting an OCal organic cannabis certification seal.

What OCAL Certification Requires

Earning the OCal seal isn’t just about putting a logo on a package.
It requires proving every step of the process.

To maintain certification, we disclose and document:

  • Standard Operating Procedures
  • Soil inputs and their ingredients
  • Cleaning solutions
  • Full documentation sent to a third-party to ensure everything meets OCal standards

OCal inspectors also conduct in-person visits to verify our practices. Even packaging must take place inside an OCal-certified facility, which is why we’re proud that our entire operation, from soil to final product, is certified under this program.

Why It Matters

There are many certifications in cannabis, but OCal stands apart as a statewide program overseen by the California Department of Food and Agriculture. It proves that cannabis can meet the same level of transparency and accountability as USDA Organic food.

Our own inspector had previously certified crops like lettuce and strawberries under USDA Organic, and our farm was the first cannabis facility she had ever evaluated.

Looking ahead, once cannabis is federally legal, OCal-certified cultivators are expected to transition seamlessly into the USDA Organic program. Until then, OCal remains the highest benchmark for quality and trust in California cannabis.
